YOLT was the name of the first good idea we had — an idea that stayed nothing but an idea.
Many, many years ago, before AI went mainstream, before the Metaverse became a buzzword and long before digital transformation became an everyday thing, Player One thought up a project that would make real life better through digital life. It would help people live experiences anywhere on the planet, using digital tools and content.
When Player One shared the idea with his mentor, the answer was: “If you still have the same idea in 5 years, something has gone very wrong.” He was right. An idea that never becomes real might as well never have existed. And that is exactly what happened. The pace of life, the obligations, the over-analysis… the idea stayed an idea. (Sounds familiar? Today YoltLabs helps people and businesses turn ideas and needs into products that get used in real life.
And if you think that story about the idea left on paper is the failure that brought us here, you are wrong again.
We made the same mistake AGAIN.
This time we prepared and we worked hard. The second idea was even better, it answered real needs and it was better designed.
We built a SaaS product, a complete solution. Beautiful. Powerful. Packed with features. And of course far better than the competition already out there.
Long story short, we threw away €120,000 and countless hours of work.
Why? Because in theory the market we were addressing wanted our product. In practice… nobody wanted to buy it and get trained to use it. #wentgreat
After that there was no going back. Before we can even finish saying “I have a good idea”, we start making it real — and instead of discussing good ideas, we build actual products.
That is why today, before we write the first line of code, we challenge the idea itself. If it needs to change, we will say so. If it does not need software at all, we will say that too. And when it is worth building, we will build it as if it were our own product. If you come to us with your idea, you will get a working mockup almost immediately so you can put it in front of the market and see whether it has legs — even if we never end up working together.
